India continued their strong performance in the second Test match against England. On Day 4, India declared their second innings at 427 runs for 6 wickets and gave England a massive target of 608 runs to win.
At the end of the day, England’s score was 72/3. They lost three big wickets – Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, and Joe Root. Now, India is just 7 wickets away from victory, while England still needs 536 runs to win.
India’s Batting: Shubman Gill Shines Again
India started Day 4 with a score of 64/1. The first wicket of the day was Karun Nair, who scored 26 runs. Then, KL Rahul came in and made a strong half-century (55 runs) but was bowled by Josh Tongue.
Next, Rishabh Pant joined Shubman Gill. Both played fast and attacked the bowlers. Pant scored 65 runs before getting out to Shoaib Bashir.
The star of the day was Shubman Gill, who scored an amazing 161 runs. He hit 13 fours and 8 sixes. Gill had earlier scored a double century in the first innings too. His strong batting made India’s position even more powerful.
He shared a partnership of 175 runs with Ravindra Jadeja, who remained not out at 69. Jadeja was also supported by Washington Sundar, who scored 12 not out. India declared the innings to set a massive total.
England’s Batting in Trouble
England needed to score 608 runs to win — which is extremely difficult in a Test match. But their top order collapsed early:
- Zak Crawley got out without scoring.
- Ben Duckett scored 25 before being bowled by Akash Deep.
- Joe Root also fell for just 6 runs, again bowled by Akash Deep.
At the close of play, Ollie Pope (24 runs) and Harry Brook (15 runs) were at the crease. But with just 7 wickets left, and over 500 runs to chase, the match is heavily in India’s favor.
