Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan has finally addressed the wave of trolling and criticism he faced for remaking international classics like Forrest Gump (Laal Singh Chaddha) and now reportedly working on Sitaare Zameen Par, which many claim bears similarities to his earlier hit Taare Zameen Par. “Main thoda pagal type ka hoon (I’m a bit crazy),” Aamir said with a smile. “I don’t pick films based on what will trend or what will be safe. I pick stories that move me emotionally — stories that have the potential to touch hearts. That’s all that matters to me.”

Laal Singh Chaddha (2022), a remake of Tom Hanks’ iconic Forrest Gump, failed to meet box office expectations despite high anticipation. The film was not only heavily trolled online but also boycotted by a section of the audience. Now, as Aamir gears up for his next production Sitaare Zameen Par, rumors of it being another “remake-style” film have sparked fresh criticism.

However, Aamir remains unfazed. “I understand the trolling. People are passionate about cinema and expectations are high. But I want them to know that I’m just trying to bring something meaningful to the screen — even if it comes from another culture or source,” he explained.

He further added, “Remaking a film is not copying — it’s interpreting it in a new cultural and emotional context. Every country deserves to see great stories in their own language, with their own nuances.”

Aamir also hinted that Sitaare Zameen Par will take a different narrative route. “This isn’t a sequel to Taare Zameen Par. It has a completely different theme and energy. While TZP was about understanding a child’s challenges, this film is more fun, inspirational, and celebratory. It’s about kids overcoming obstacles in an entertaining way.”

With this statement, the actor hopes to encourage audiences to give his upcoming projects a fair chance before forming opinions. Known for his meticulous approach to filmmaking and for choosing socially impactful scripts, Aamir is clearly ready to continue marching to the beat of his own drum — no matter what the critics say.
